Jon Richard Janos' Obituary
Jon-Richard Janos entered eternal life on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.
J.R. was born in Temple, TX, on August 21, 1943, to John R. and Gertrude F. Janos while his father, who was in the U.S. Army, was stationed at Fort Hood, TX.
He was a lifetime member of the Holy Name Society and honor graduate of Sacred Heart School in Jeannette, PA, graduate of Jeannette Senior High School and Cum Laude graduate from West Liberty University, WV.
J.R.’s love of sports was depicted throughout his life. He was a summer camp counselor in high school and at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV, during his college years. He was an intramural sports director and sports writer for WLU’s newspaper. His artistic abilities, inherited from his father, were displayed in various art shows throughout West Virginia and Pennsylvania; many featuring abstract illustrations of athletes. Mr. Janos was a teacher and high school football coach in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia for 20 years. Following his teaching and coaching career, he worked in sales and marketing in Virginia. J.R. also enjoyed many tropical vacations and took pleasure in sharing stories of his travels. His desire to return to the state of his birth – and to escape the cold and snowy weather - took place in 1980 when he selected Corpus Christi as his residence of preference. J.R. held various positions in Corpus, and most recently spent 6 enjoyable years working in the Event Services area at the American Bank Center.
Mr. Janos is preceded in death by his father, John R. Janos. He is survived by his caring and devoted mother, Gertrude F. Janos, his loving sister, Maria Janos Revetta, her husband, Don, of Pittsburgh, PA, and their daughter and J.R.’s beloved goddaughter, Renee Janos Revetta, of Washington, DC. J.R. is also survived by numerous cousins and their families and countless friends across the country.
He will always be remembered for his steadfast love and thoughtfulness shown to his family, his dedicated work ethic, his quick wit, and his knowledge of sports. J.R. was truly an inspiration to all who knew him and will live on forever in the hearts of many.
A private service will be held in Pennsylvania followed by a Mass at St. Pius X in Corpus Christi at a date yet to be determined. A celebration of J.R.’s life is scheduled to be held in April in Pennsylvania.
Jon-Richard’s family would like to thank the staff at Kindred Hospital and those who demonstrated their Texas hospitality during his sister’s recent 3-week stay in Corpus Christi.
